Beauty Bar: Gillette Venus x TerraCycle recycling initiative offers proper disposal of used self-care products
Gillette Venus is spearheading a recycling initiative for its customers to return used beauty products and packaging — of their own creation, and others’.
For a limited time, shoppers can download a shipping label online, bundle up all the packaging from their used self-care products, and ship them via UPS to be fully recycled by TerraCycle.
“We are proud to partner with forward-thinking brands, like Venus, to offer consumers a way to divert waste from landfills,” Tom Szaky, the founder and chief executive officer of TerraCycle, said in a news release. “#RecycleWithVenus offers Canadians simple steps to live a more sustainable life through small everyday actions.”
The program marks the second time the company has partnered with TerraCycle. Gillette Venus also launched “Canada’s First Razor Recycling Program” with the recycling outfit in Sept. 2019.
In addition to the product recycling program, the #RecycleWithVenus initiative sees the company donate $1 for every pound of beauty and personal care products and packaging received through the program to the World Wildlife Fund Canada. This is in addition to a $25,000 donation made to mark the product launch, according to the news release.
To say this Gillette Venus program is a welcome initiative is an understatement. While we wish the program would last more than a ‘limited-time,’ it provides a good opportunity for those with a collection of used or unwanted beauty products in their possession to dispose of them — properly.
