A guiding document about selecting alternatives for the ban on 6 types of single-use plastics has been released by the Government of Canada following Environment and Climate Change Canada’s June 20, 2022 announcement.

This guidance document provides information and suggestions to businesses and organizations in making alternative choices for:

  • checkout bags;
  • cutlery;
  • foodservice ware made from or containing problematic plastics that are hard to recycle;
  • ring carriers;
  • stir sticks; and
  • straws (with some exceptions).
